Campaign for Social Science Roadshows

October 23, 2012 1284

The Campaign for Social Science will hold its latest roadshows in the next few weeks.

The first is at Keele University on Wednesday 24 October. The event takes place in Room CM0.12A/B on the ground floor of the Claus Moser Building from 12.30pm to 2pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

The speakers will be Professor Sir Howard Newby, President of the Academy of Social Sciences and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Liverpool; Ceridwen Roberts, a Campaign Board member; and Stephen Anderson, Director of the Campaign.

There will be a short presentation about the Campaign, and then a debate about the relationship between social science and government. The debate will focus on the work of the Campaign to have the post of Government Chief Social Scientist reinstated. This will be followed by a question and answer session.

Please visit http://cfsskeele.eventbrite.com/ to book a free place – the roadshow is open to all social scientists.

The Keele event will be the 15th such event the Campaign has held since it was launched in 2011. It will also hold roadshows at Glasgow University on 20 November and the University of Salford on 29 November. The roadshows are staged to emphasise the value and importance of social science and to encourage support and donations. See http://www.campaignforsocialscience.org.uk/

The Campaign gives social science a voice by working across the social science community, both within academia and outside. It has four main objectives: informing and influencing public policy with social science evidence; keeping the media informed with comment on social science issues; speaking with authority on the state of social science; and promoting the benefits of investment in social science education and research.

The Academy of Social Science’s mission is to promote social sciences in the United Kingdom for the public benefit. The academy is composed of individual academicians and learned societies; it responds to government and other consultations on behalf of the social science community, organizes meetings about social science and seminars on topics that span social science disciplines, and sponsors a number of efforts that promote social science and enhance its value to society.
