The Future of Knowledge: Mapping Interfaces

April 27, 2011 1073

The European Science Foundation report on “The Future of Knowledge: Mapping Interfaces” explores the discourse of disciplinarity and the contemporary relevance of interdisciplinarity.

The report seeks to explore critically the borderlines evident in the production of knowledge, the forces of resistance to realignment and collaboration, and the possibility of alternative divisions of scientific labour. Its analysis supports better coordination of targeted research in Europe and more realistic and meaningful philosophies and policies of science.

Scholars from a wide range of disciplines across humanities, social sciences and natural sciences gave input to the report. It was written under the guidance of Professor Gísli Pálsson, with contribution from Professor Ulrike Landfester. In addition, the report contains two broad essays by Professor Julie Thompson Klein and Professor Christian Pohl, who also participated in the formulation of the report.

The publication is available to download here.
