Event: Value of Science: Data, Products and Use

June 21, 2021 2934

Join the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics and the Coleridge Initiative for a two-day conference to advance understanding of the value of data by showcasing new data, products, and use resulting from recent NCSES investments. Speakers include experts from the social sciences, who will discuss how new ways of connecting and linking data can advance the empirical basis of our understanding of the value of science. The results of this workshop will be highlighted in a series of scientific papers in the Harvard Data Science Review to inform a future research agenda and other public data investments.

About the Coleridge Initiative

The Coleridge Initiative is a not-for-profit organization established at New York University. It works with governments to ensure that data are more effectively used for public decision-making. The Coleridge Initiative achieves this goal by working with government agencies to create value for the taxpayer from the careful use of data, building new technologies to enable secure access to and sharing of confidential microdata, and training agency staff to acquire modern data skills. The over two dozen guest speakers will include social scientists Emilda Rivers, James Evans, Frauke Kreuter, Bruce Weinberg, and other many leaders in the field of economics, statistics, sociology and more. The conference is intended to advance understanding of the value of data by showcasing new data, products, and use resulting from recent data investments.
