Elena Carletti

Elena Carletti is a professor of finance at Bocconi University, a member of the board of directors of Unicredit SpA, where she chairs the Internal Controls and Risk Committee, and a member of the Advisory Scientific Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board. Carletti is currently vice-president of the European Finance Association, of which she will be president in 2022, and director of the “Banking, Finance and Regulation” unit at the Baffi Carefin Centre of Bocconi University. She is the founder director of the Florence School of Banking and Finance at the European University Institute.

This year’s Nobel prize in economics has gone to Douglas Diamond, Philip Dybvig and former Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke for their work on banks and how they relate to financial crises. “The laureates’ insights,” said Tore Ellingsen, chair of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences, “have improved our ability to avoid both serious crises and expensive bailouts.”
