Jirard, Professor of Criminal Justice at Shippensburg University, and Dr. Genny Beemyn, director of the University of Massachusetts Stonewall Center (and editor of the newly released SAGE Encyclopedia of Trans Studies), in a wide-ranging conversation with moderator Dr. Gávi Ansara, researcher, educator, and consultant centering on the panelists own journeys and how they have worked to decolonize and decisnormatize the higher education system.

About the Speakers
Marni A. Brown is a sociologist and teacher whose work focuses on complicating the ideas we hold about society – including gender, sexuality and race in the United States – and finding ways to communicate these new ideas effectively. She has written several journal articles in Gender & Society and written the book including Gendered Lives, Sexual Beings: A Feminist Anthology. She also appears in the webinar, Speaking Out: Voicing Movements in the Face of Censorship: A Banned Books Week Webinar Event.
Stephanie A Jirard is a professor of criminal justice. Her teaching interests include criminal law and procedure and mock trial, and her research interests cover constitutional law, capital punishment, and race and gender in popular culture. She has written two books including Criminal Law and Procedure published in 2018. She also appears in the webinar, Having Conversations About Race In The Classroom.
Genny Beemyn is a historian, writer, and LGBTQ advocate and the director of Stonewall Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. They have published more than a half dozen books on the lives and experience of LGBTQ people, with an emphasis on transgender youth and college students. Some of their books include The SAGE Encyclopedia of Trans Studies, published by SAGE Publishing. Beemyn also appears in the webinar, Trans Rights Priorities for the Biden Administration.
