Britain’s Academy of Social Sciences Elects 74 New Fellows

March 10, 2026 88

Britain’s Academy of Social Sciences has named 74 social scientists as fellows of the academy for the spring 2026 cohort. Fellows are elected for their significant contributions to or via social science, whether in academia, industry, or policy, highlighting the relevance of the social sciences in understanding and addressing the many varied societal challenges facing the United Kingdom and the world.

“I’m delighted to welcome these leading social scientists to the academy’s fellowship this spring,” a release quoted Will Hutton, president of the academy and a fellow himself. “Their substantial contributions have furthered knowledge and our understanding in tackling a wide range of societal challenges including working with Indigenous communities in the Arctic to better understand climate risk, memory retrieval processes in legal contexts, social inequalities, economic policy and tackling hate crime.”

The academy’s fellowship includes 1,700 leading social scientists from academia, the public, private and third sectors. This year’s cohort draws from 39 UK organizations, comprising 35 higher education Institutions, as well as think tanks, non-profits, civil service, and from countries including Australia, the Czech Republic, Finland and Ireland. Selection is through an independent peer review.
