August 22, 2011 1459

Professor Sir Howard Newby AcSS will host the annual lunch for members of the Academy and their guests on Tuesday 20th December 2011 in the elegant surroundings of the Benjamin Franklin Room at the Royal Society of Arts in London. This year it will take the form of a hot buffet lunch to contain costs and to allow for greater networking opportunities.

Confirmed speakers are the Rt Hon John Denham MP (left), Shadow Secretary of State for Business Innovation and Skills, and Professor Paul Boyle (right), CEO of the ESRC. Sir Howard will also present new Academicians with their certificates.

Bookings are open online via the Events page of the Academy website. Tickets are £70 per head for two course hot buffet lunch with wine and coffee and an uparalleled opportunity to meet and network with other senior members of the social science community.

The Academy of Social Science’s mission is to promote social sciences in the United Kingdom for the public benefit. The academy is composed of individual academicians and learned societies; it responds to government and other consultations on behalf of the social science community, organizes meetings about social science and seminars on topics that span social science disciplines, and sponsors a number of efforts that promote social science and enhance its value to society.
