Book Review: Free Trade Doesn’t Work

August 11, 2012 2478

In the latest issue of the Review of Radical Political Economics, Daniel E. Saros of Valparaiso University reviews Ian Fletcher’s “Free Trade Doesn’t Work: What Should Replace It and Why“:

This interesting book tackles conventional trade theory and proposes a solution to America’s most pressing trade problems based on developments in new trade theory. A major reason Fletcher condemns free trade theory is that, in his view, many economists adopt free trade positions simply
because the ideas are easier to represent mathematically despite the fact that the assumptions are
empirically false.
