AAU Explains Why the U.S. Federal Government Funds Social and Behavioral Sciences Research

October 7, 2013 1906

AAU Brochure PicOnce again, the American Association of Universities has come out to publicly support social and behavioral research funding. As a follow up to a letter they sent out last month, AAU recently published a brochure that explains how federal funding for social and behavioral sciences keeps our nation safe, strengthens democracy, improves health, reduces violence and increases safety, and fosters innovation.

“Like the physical and natural sciences, federally funded research in the social and behavioral sciences … provides needed insight and tools to resolve many of the grand challenges currently facing our nation and the world. Our long-term success in addressing major economic, health, energy, environmental and national security challenges depends on understanding not only their technological and scientific complexities, but also the broader social, political and economic issues that serve as the context for addressing these matters.”

Sage, the parent of Social Science Space, is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, 24-year-old Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.
