SAGE opposes the Flake Amendment

June 11, 2012 2178

Recently, the US House of Representatives passed off an amendment offered by Representative Jeff Flake (R-AZ) that would prohibit funding for the Political Science Program with the National Science Foundation. If enacted into law, this amendment would set an extraordinary and disturbing precedent in which Congress chooses which scientific disciplines should be funded and not funded within the NSF’s research portfolio. As a publisher of quality political science research, SAGE felt the need to act.

We have reached out to our Senators to express our opposition and wanted to share publicly one example of the letters our CEO sent here: http://sageconnection.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/boxer.pdf

We hope that you’ll join us in support of political science research funding. Several other organizations we partner with are also opposing this amendment. If you’d like to join them in taking action, please click here to send a message to your elected officials through the FABBS website.

Sage, the parent of Social Science Space, is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, 24-year-old Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely.
