Strengthening Student AI Literacy at Critical Thinking Bootcamp 2026
As higher education increasingly embeds generative artificial intelligence to help students think critically about information they encounter, how and when to best use AI has become a pressing challenge for librarians and faculty.
To explore this issue, Sage recently hosted “Critical Thinking Bootcamp: Strengthening AI Literacy,” the seventh annual edition of a virtual event bringing together academic librarians and faculty to discuss critical thinking, in this case practical approaches for teaching critical thinking, evaluating AI-generated content, and supporting responsible AI use.
The resources from the bootcamp are now available on Sage’s website.
The collection includes recordings of four practical teaching sessions featuring classroom activities, lesson plans, and approaches that can be adapted for instructional use. These sessions covered:
- Teaching students to think critically about AI and evaluate its biases
- Helping students navigate AI use with integrity
- Evaluating sources, verifying information, and navigating AI-generated content
- Understanding trust, credibility, and how students make sense of complex information environments
The resource hub also contains a crowdsourced collection of recommended readings, teaching materials, and practical resources contributed by Bootcamp participants, alongside the full event recording featuring lightning talks and audience Q&A.
Speakers for the event were Brooklyne Gipson, assistant professor of journalism and media studies, Rutgers University; Sandy Hervieux, head librarian, Nahum Gelber Law Library, McGill University KOLINA KOLTAI, Senior Investigator and Trainer, Bellingcat; Leroy LaFleur, associate librarian for research, teaching, and learning services for Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University Libraries; Dan Chibnall, STEM librarian & associate professor of librarianship, Drake University; Sarah Morris, director of the library at Oglethorpe University; and Rosalind Tedford, director for research, instruction, and outreach, Wake Forest University.
The bootcamp was held in partnership with Choice, a publishing unit of the American Library Association/Association of College and Research Libraries.
