Contemporary Social Science

August 23, 2011 3684

The Journal of the Academy,Contemporary Social Science, is taking shape in its new incarnation. Whilst individual papers of relevance across the social sciences are still very welcome the emphasis is now on special issues that deal with cross-disciplinary topics of general significance.

The first issue, published in  February dealing with ‘Post-conflict Societies’ was well received.

The current issue examining ‘Challenge, Change or Crisis in Global Higher Education?’ explores the timely questions of whether recent and planned developments in higher education really do offer the social and intellectual progress that their protagonists claim.  Sadly, research shows that many recent changes to higher education have put the clock back rather than moving things forward.

Rather presciently, the Autumn issue focuses on Crowds in the 21st Century.

Professor David Canter AcSS

Anyone wishing to prepare a special issue should contact the editor, Professor David Canter AcSS, by emailingdvcanter@btinternet.com or visit theJournal’s website where there are guidelines on preparing a special issue.

The Academy of Social Science’s mission is to promote social sciences in the United Kingdom for the public benefit. The academy is composed of individual academicians and learned societies; it responds to government and other consultations on behalf of the social science community, organizes meetings about social science and seminars on topics that span social science disciplines, and sponsors a number of efforts that promote social science and enhance its value to society.
