Invitation to apply for BSA Media Fellowships

January 17, 2011

The British Science Association has announced a series of Media Fellowships, which are intended to raise awareness and understanding of the workings of the media and its relationship with science.

There are 10 Media Fellowships available, all spanning 3-8 weeks. Each Fellow will be working with a national press, broadcast or internet journalist, learning how to work within the media environment and how to deal with the conditions and constraints it imposes. The Fellows will also attend the British Science Festival in Birmingham in September. At the end of the Fellowship each participant can expect to have a better understanding of the media and how to use it to their advantage.

This Fellowship is open to practising scientists, social scientists, clinicians, and engineers who have a minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience in their field in the UK . The deadline for applications is 1 March 2011.

Further information about the Fellowships and how to apply is available on the BSA Media Fellowship homepage.

Surveys Provide Insight Into Three Factors That Encourage Open Data and Science

Over a 10-year period Carol Tenopir of DataONE and her team conducted a global survey of scientists, managers and government workers involved in broad environmental science activities about their willingness to share data and their opinion of the resources available to do so (Tenopir et al., 2011, 2015, 2018, 2020). Comparing the responses over that time shows a general increase in the willingness to share data (and thus engage in Open Science).
